As part of your course, there is an expectation that you will source and carry out a work experience placement in a sports environment. We have over 200 links to employers which include opportunities to work in areas such as gym instructing / personal training, sports coaching, sports marketing, sports nutrition, PE teaching, sports massage and therapy, to name just a few.

At the start of your course, it is mandatory that you take part in the NCS trip / project which the college runs in September. If you have already attended a previous NCS trip, you will still be able to take part in this activity. The cost for this activity is £35 and this will be paid when you enrol.

In addition to your studies we provide volunteering opportunities working with the Disability Sport Yorkshire (DSY), First Steps Sports and Tigers Trust, amongst others. These volunteering opportunities can also lead to paid work and additional qualifications.

There are also opportunities to undertake relevant sports qualifications including Level 2 Gym Instructors, Level 3 Sports Massage, FA Level 1 Football Coaching and various specialist fitness qualifications such as indoor cycling, circuits and studio resistance.

We also hold annual study trips, which include:

  • A three-day study tour visit to London in which you will visit a range of locations from parliament, The Old Bailey and Wembley stadium
  • International sports tour annually (Barcelona, Paris etc.)

You will get plenty of notice of these visits and trips so that you can save for them, although we try and keep them as cheap as possible. We have found that these activities enrich our students and your predecessors have all urged that we continue to provide a breadth of visits for you all.  We are aware of the cost and so we will provide you with as much notice as possible and will always source the best deals. As part of the course students also take part in work experience / volunteering opportunities.

Before you begin your course, you’ll need to make sure you’re prepared with the right equipment. Many of our courses need specialist health and safety clothing, but we’ve made it simple - some of your essentials and college branded clothing can be bought from our online shop.

For your course, you will need:

  • Lever arch folder with dividers to organise your work and assignments
  • Stationery including notepad for use in class, pens and pencils
  • USB pen drive (for saving your work)
  • College-branded sports kit for active lessons. There is an expectation that you will wear the correct college-branded clothing at all times. Sample sizes will be available at enrolment to try on
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for your sport e.g. gum-shield or shin pads
  • Whistle
  • Waterproof outdoor clothing and footwear
  • Towel and shower gel for post-practical showering
