You will undertake a number of interesting and relevant trips and visits as part of the agriculture programme. These include visits to a range of local farms as well as specialist conferences. Some visits may be free, but others will incur a charge varying with the nature of the visit and the distance travelled. Such charges will be kept to a reasonable rate and we would not expect this to exceed £150 over the course of the year.

For Foundation Degree programmes work experience is a compulsory element.  Support is given to students to find placements. Students will have to complete a minimum of 100 hours of external work experience at a related industry at each level of study.

The college has a strict policy in place when approving work placements – students must not commence placement until they have received notification of approval by the college.

Before you begin your course, you’ll need to make sure you’re prepared with the right equipment. Many of our courses need specialist health and safety clothing, but we’ve made it simple - some of your essentials and college-branded clothing can be bought from our online shop.

For your course, you will need:

  • A tablet, laptop or stationery to take notes in lectures and seminars
  • USB stick and / or portable hard drive
  • Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), particularly footwear, for trips and visits
  • Waterproof clothing and footwear for outdoor practicals
  • College-branded white laboratory coat
  • The college has a strict policy of not allowing work boots inside college buildings – you will need to have alternative footwear (shoes or trainers) to attend lectures and tutorials.
  • A wide range of resources are available for use both on and offsite for dissertation projects but it may not be possible to purchase/service all requests therefore students need to be aware that they may need to self-fund some elements.
